A gripping and earnest novel, If You Want to Make God Laugh is set in post-Apartheid South Africa. The cover is beautifully illustrated, so as the lead promotional designer I wanted to utilize the elements and color scheme in all marketing materials, including a book club kit, social media graphics, recipe cards, and more.

cover animation
I animated the characters from the cover in a style that feels like a flipbook. To create this look I illustrated each frame of the animals’ movements, and then had a delayed frame behind the main frame that was set at a lower opacity.
